Allergens Safety Policy for Oil Analysis Laboratories

Policy Statement

The Allergens Safety Policy aims to minimise the risk of allergic reactions among employees, contractors, interns, and visitors at Oil Analysis Laboratories. This policy outlines the procedures for identifying, managing, and communicating allergen-related risks, including latex and dietary allergens.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, interns, and visitors at Oil Analysis Laboratories.

Objectives

  1. To ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their allergy status.
  2. To comply with health and safety regulations concerning allergens.
  3. To maintain the integrity and reputation of Oil Analysis Laboratories.

Background

Allergens that may be encountered in the laboratory, kitchen and office settings include, but are not limited to:

  • Latex: Commonly found in gloves and other lab equipment.
  • Dietary Allergens: May be encountered during events, meetings, or daily meals.

Procedures

Latex Allergens
  • Alternative Materials: Provide non-latex gloves and other equipment for those who have a latex allergy.
Dietary Allergens
  • Visitor Induction: During the induction process or prior to visitor meetings, obtain dietary requirements from visitors to ensure that allergen-free options are available.
  • Labeling: Clearly label food items during events or meetings to indicate the presence of common allergens like nuts, dairy, and gluten.
Reporting and Communication
  • Self-Declaration: Employees, contractors, and interns are encouraged to declare any known allergies during their initial orientation.
  • Emergency Contacts: Maintain a list of emergency contacts and medical information for individuals with known severe allergies.
Training and Awareness
  • Allergen Training: Conduct regular training sessions to educate staff about allergen risks and safety measures.
  • First Aid: Ensure that the employee with a severe allergy carries their medication and keeps a spare e.g. epinephrine auto-injectors in the first aid kit so that this may be used on them during an emergency. Train staff on how to administer these in case of an allergic reaction.

By adhering to this Allergens Safety Policy, Oil Analysis Laboratories aims to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, while also complying with relevant health and safety regulations.
