The laboratory environment is a very safe working environment and provided all take due care to operate in a safe manner, using appropriate tools and PPE the risk of even minor injuries is very low. The Accident Reporting Policy aims to streamline the process of reporting and documenting accidents within Oil Analysis Laboratories. This policy outlines a simplified yet effective procedure for immediate reporting and follow-up actions. The aim is to allow those involved not to see the process as a mountain of paperwork and to feel empowered to be able to raise a safety concern so it can be dealt with swiftly and effectively.


Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, and interns working at Oil Analysis Laboratories.


Objectives

  1. To ensure quick and efficient reporting of accidents.
  2. To facilitate immediate corrective actions.

Procedures

Immediate Reporting
  • Verbal Notification: In the event of an accident, immediately notify the designated safety officer or supervisor verbally.
  • Quick Form: Fill out an accident report form, available both in print and digital formats, to capture essential details.
Follow-Up Actions
  • Initial Assessment: The safety officer will conduct a quick initial assessment based on the verbal notification and quick form. Should further more serious actions be required then this may need to be reported as per government RIDDOR guidance too.
  • Corrective Measures: Implement immediate corrective actions to prevent similar incidents.
Documentation
  • Digital Log: All accident details will be entered into a digital log by the safety officer, minimising paperwork.
  • Review: Periodic reviews of the digital log will be conducted to identify trends and implement preventive measures.
