Modern Slavery & Ethical Employment

Introduction

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.

We are committed to continuously improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking in accordance with the UK Government’s objectives of eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking.

Organisational structure

Oil Analysis Laboratories is an experienced team of laboratory condition monitoring experts, which delivers high-quality laboratory testing, training and consultancy.

We establish a relationship of trust and integrity with all our suppliers, which is built upon mutually beneficial factors. Our supplier selection and on-boarding procedure include due diligence of the supplier’s reputation, respect for the law, compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, and references.

We haven’t been made aware of any allegations of human trafficking/slavery activities against any of our suppliers, but if we were, then we would act immediately against the supplier and report it to the authorities.

Due diligence processes for slavery and human trafficking

As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk we annually assess our key suppliers against the Global Slavery Index of at-risk countries. Any concerns raised about any of our business suppliers or partners practices trigger an immediate review and site visits where necessary.

We actively protect whistleblowers including employees, customers and suppliers allowing anonymous submission of information from any individual believed to be aware of any unethical practices.

We annually review any news events and media stories that have taken place related to unethical business practices and human rights violations including modern slavery. These businesses are checked against our supplier list to confirm none have been involved.

Following the findings of the above surveillance methods will determine the appropriate response we take.

Awareness and Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to our staff.

All visitors to our site whether employees, suppliers or customers are asked to sign a declaration confirming to the best of their knowledge they are not aware of any unethical or illegal business practices in their company including modern slavery and forced labour.

Key Performance Indicators

We have defined a set of key performance indicators and controls to combat modern slavery and human trafficking in our organisation and supply chain. These include:

  • How many employees have completed mandatory training?
  • Time to completion of any actions arising from supply chain reviews.
  • How many reports have been made by our employees that indicate their awareness of and sensitivity to ethical issues?
  • We aim to have a planned response implemented within 1 week following any report of unethical behaviour.
