Competence and Training Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this Competence and Training Policy is to ensure that all employees of Oil Analysis Laboratories have the necessary skills, knowledge, and competence to perform their duties effectively and safely. This policy outlines our approach to training and competence assessment, contributing to the overall quality of our work and the safety of our operations.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees and contractors working at Oil Analysis Laboratories.

Responsibilities

All employees and contractors are responsible for participating in required training and competence assessments. Managers and supervisors have additional responsibilities for identifying training needs, providing appropriate training opportunities, and assessing the competence of their team members.

Competence

  • Competence is defined as the ability to perform duties effectively, safely, and to the required quality standards.
  • Competence is assessed based on qualifications, experience, performance, and the ability to apply knowledge and skills in practice.

Training

  • We provide a range of training opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge of our employees. This includes in-house training programs, external courses, and online training materials.
  • We utilise LearnOilAnalysis.com as a primary resource for online training materials in the subject of Oil Analysis, and staff also enrolled on the Lubrication Essentials course online oil analysis programme of Oil Analysis Laboratories as well our own induction, safety and competence training. These materials provide valuable knowledge on various aspects of oil analysis, laboratory safety, and other relevant topics.
  • In-house training programs are conducted regularly and are tailored to the specific needs of our operations and employees. These programs include practical training, workshops, and seminars.

Continuous Learning and Development

  • We encourage continuous learning and professional development. Employees are encouraged to seek out additional learning opportunities, and we support attendance at relevant conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • We review and update our training materials and programs regularly to ensure they remain current and effective.

Records and Documentation

  • We maintain electronic records of all training completed by employees. These records include the date of training, the content of the training, and the individual’s performance or assessment results.
  • These records are reviewed during competence assessments and performance reviews.
